The King of the Beat Generation

Jack Kerouac

It would only be a matter of time before I had to mention the awe inspiring and dangerously addictive Jack Kerouac. Jack Kerouac's conversational writings have changed my life, as it has so many others' for decades. Upon finishing my first meet with Kerouac, On the Road, I ran back to the bookstore not only to buy Keoruac's collected works, but also to buy four additional copies of On the Road; which I then forced both family members and friends to read in a earnest attempt to share this remarkable experience with those around me. Kerouac's writing style has been equally criticized and praised, and I am the first to admit that he doesn't leave much room to breathe in his writing. Yet, I honestly believe that his sense of life and freedom that is so fiercely portrayed in his books should be read, experienced and felt by any and all.

Whether you read his books and poetry, watch some of the amazing documentaries about his life or just listen to one of the many recorded reading his done, the only thing you shouldn't do is go through life without him.

Posted here is a clip from the Steve Allen Show in 1956, he is reading an excerpt from the book On the Road.
